NIPR Lauds Moves by FG-NG to Dialogue with Boko Haram

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Friday (31st August 20012) described moves by the federal government to engage the leadership of the Jama'atu Ahlissunnati Wadda'wati lil Jihad, otherwise known as Boko Haram for dialogue as a welcome development. A statement by the National President of the institute, Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Abdullahi said the security situation in the country, especially the North should give all right thinking patriots enough cause for concern, stressing that politicising it and making it look anything but a Nigerian problem will certainly not solve the problem. "It is in this light that the Institute believes, even if somewhat prematurely, that the news of government engaging the leadership of the Jama'atu Ahlissunnati Wadda'wati lil Jihad, otherwise known as Boko Haram, through whatever channel, "back or front “should be cheering to all. "The Institute believes this is a very necessary step in the quest for a solution to the problem and the government deserves a pat on the back for taking this statesmanly and pragmatic way of conflict resolution. "The Institute urges the government not to relent or be blackmailed into abandoning this quest, even as it also appeals to the leadership of the sect to avail itself of this opportunity to bring its grievances to the table with a view to bringing to an end the nightmare that the issue has become for people living in so many parts of the country" the statement said. It further noted the controversy being generated by the calls for state police, maintaining that at a time when various groups in the country are not relating well with each other, the establishment of state police will not augur well for the country.
