september 12, 2012:Fear of Boko-Haram’s attack alters Eagles friendly plan trip

The menace of the Boko Haram sect in the northern part of Nigeria was given as reason by officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to bring forward the departure date of the Super Eagles, who are billed to take on their Nigerien counterparts in a friendly match on Wednesday. The Eagles, originally scheduled to depart by road on Monday for the match was ordered by the NFF to get ready for the trip by air after yesterday’s training match against Prison FC of Abuja, which the Eagles won 4-0 at the FIFA technical goal project in Abuja.--- our Agencies gathered that the NFF was afraid of the security situation in Sokoto following the series of attacks on the residents by the Boko Haram sect,
sent out two of its officers who travelled to Niamey, the capital of Niger to hastily take charge of the logistics of the team whose arrival date was moved to yesterday.--- Sources close to the NFF secretariat said that the decision to change the team’s travel plan became necessary after the federation considered security implications of the team travelling through Sokoto by road on Monday to the Niamey.--- To ensure a hitch-free trip, the federation therefore decided to send the Eagles to Niamey by air. “We have to take the decision to avoid travelling through Sokoto because of the series of terrorist attacks in the town by the Boko Haram sect,” the source said.--- Already, two officials of the federation have been in Niamey since Friday where they have concluded arrangement to receive the team in Niger. --- Meanwhile, Keshi confirmed that a team of 23 Super Eagles players was picked to make the Niger trip for the friendly. Keshi disclosed yesterday in Abuja that he agreed to released three players from Sunshine Stars of Akure, including skipper, Godfrey Oboabona, midfielder Izu Azuka and goalie Moses Ocheje, to the Akure based side for their Champions League confrontation against Algerian side ASO Chlef on Friday, adding that he retained only full back Solomon Kwambe, for the game.----.*
